Meeting Schedules & Deadlines
Meeting Schedules:
The Conservation Commission meets every Tuesday (except the fifth Tuesday of the month) at 8:30 a.m.  Hearings are held on the first and third Tuesdays, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Filing Deadlines:

An Application may be submitted to the Conservation Department by noon on Monday of the 1st and 3rd week in the month generally fifteen (15) days prior to the desired Tuesday morning Hearing date.
Application dates may vary due to holidays and other reasons.  It is good practice to call the Conservation Department to verify these Monday deadlines (508)240-3700, Extension 425.

Due to prolonged Continuations that cause increased fees for Applicants, we are requesting the following information:

The following is a Checklist for Required Information When Filing a Notice of Intent to the Town of Orleans Conservation Department:

If your Application is not complete, it will not be accepted.

1.      Completed DEP Notice of Intent (2 copies) including;
  • Assessor’s Map with parcel denoted;
  • Filing Fee Calculation Worksheet and filing fee;
  • Notice to Abutters:  Abutters must be notified of the project, the date of the Hearing, and where copies of the Application are available, on or before the day the Application is submitted. Notification must be given to all those within 100’ of the property line of the land where the activity is proposed and if the site is on a pond, all the Owners who live on said pond. Return Receipts must be returned to the Conservation Department at or before the Hearing.
2.      Site Plans (13 Copies) including:
  • Scale;
  • North Arrow;
  • Locus Map;
  • Date;
  • Preparer’s Name;
  • Property Owner’s Name;
  • Applicant’s Name if different than the above;
  • Street Address;
  • Engineer’s and/or Sanitarian’s Stamp where applicable;
  • Existing & proposed contours, & the amount and kind of fill proposed;
  • All wetland resource areas within 100 feet of the project including Top of Coastal Banks and dunes, ACEC boundaries, Land Subject to Coastal Storm Flowage, and Mean High Water;
  • The 50, 75, & 100-foot buffer zones from the edge of wetland resource boundaries where applicable;
  • Limit of work location & method of temporary erosion control;
  • Footprint of existing & proposed structures with overlays to show changes;
  • Building or other construction Plans to describe proposed work;
  • Percentage increase/decrease of the square footage & cubic footage of a proposed addition or restructuring;
  • Test hole data and septic system design.
3. On Site Requirements:
        The subject property is to be staked at the time the Application is submitted.  Stakes are to be flagged & marked for the following:
  • Property boundary corners;
  • New structures or additions to existing structures at all corners, including decks and/or outbuildings;
  • Location of septic tank & leaching field;
  • Proposed limit of work;
  • Edge of resource area(s);
  • Wells within 100 feet of any proposed septic system.
4. Continuing an Application:
  • Request to continue to a certain date for a certain reason. Applications cannot be continued indefinitely.
  • Select a date when you are sure the requested information will be submitted to the Commission by Wednesday at noon before the Hearing so that the Commission has adequate time to review the information.
  • Applications that are continued several times without additional or requested information may be denied for Lack of Information and you will be asked to re-file.
