The Orleans Police Department has a Certified Passenger Safety Technician on staff. Child Safety seats are typically installed between the hours of 4:00pm and 8:00pm. Q. Why have your car seat installed by a technician?
A. We will inspect your childs car seat for proper sizing of seat and restraints. We will check for manufactures recalls, and insure proper installation.
Some general guidelines for child safety seats
(always check manufacturers labels and instructions)
- Children from birth to one year and less than twenty pounds in weight must be in rear facing infant seat.
- Children over one year and are twenty to fourty pounds in weight can be in a forward facing seat.
- Children who have out grown a child safety seat are required to use a booster seat/safety belt combination until they are eight years old, or over fifty seven inches tall.
- Children under the age of thirteen should not ride in front seat, and never be seated directly in front of an active air bag.
- Children learn from example and are more likely to continue to use a lap and shoulder belts when they observe there parents or caregivers buckle up.
