Q. What are the restrictions of a Junior Operators license?

A. A junior operator (under the age of 18) may not operate a vehicle with any passengers who are under the age of 18, excluding immediate family members, unless:

circlebullet.jpgaccompanied by a person who is at least age 21 has at least 1 year of driving experience and holds a valid license from Massachusetts or another state, and is sitting in the front passenger seat.

A junior operator is also prohibited from operating a motor vehicle between the hours of 12:30 am. And 5 am., unless the driver is accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Q. What happens to my driver’s license if I refuse to take a breath test after I have been arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol?

A.  If you have been arrested for OUI alcohol and refuse to take a chemical breath test, your license or right to operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts will be suspended for a period of at least 180days.  If you are over the age of 21, the penalty if you take the test and fail it with a result of .08 or above is 30 days.
