FY 2012 Real Estate & Personal Property Tax Bills Issued April 30, 2012
Bills for the second installment of FY 2012 real estate and personal property taxes will be mailed on March 30, 2012 and payments are due by May 1, 2012.
Taxpayers are encouraged to pay their bills online. The Town’s electronic bill service is available 24 hours a day, through May 1st. Payments made by bank account transfer are charged a fee of $0.40 for this service; credit card payments are assessed a fee equal to 2.95 % of the payment amount, minimum fee of $1.00. The Tax Collector’s office at Orleans Town Hall accepts payments made by cash or check only.
Please note that postmarks are not accepted as evidence of timely payment; payments are considered made when received by the Tax Collector. Taxes not paid by May 1, 2012 will accrue interest at the rate of 14% per annum, computed from the bill issuance date of April 1, 2012.
Taxpayers should also note that failure to receive a bill does not affect the validity of the bill. A person who does not receive a bill is still liable for the tax, plus any interest and penalties accrued. Therefore, it is important to keep the Town Assessor informed of one’s current name and address so that bills can be properly delivered.
